Back-to-School Essentials

Top footwear choices for the new school year.

In households all over the world, parents are getting ready to send their kids back to the classroom. After the lazy days of summer, the amount of organizing and planning involved with getting back-to-school ready, can be exhausting and a little overwhelming (even for those of us that love school-year prep). To make things a little easier, we’ve put together a list of footwear—everything from sandals to winter boots—that kids need to get them through the first half of the school year. Designed with durability and comfort in mind, all of the styles in this selection are made to be worn season after season.

Spoiler Alert: This article refers to snowstorms, winter and winter boots because, as every parent knows, you can never be too prepared.

 THE CRAB SANDAL

The transition from summer to fall is tough for everyone, including kids. Let them hang on to that free-spirited summer feeling just a little bit longer with the Crab Sandal. Perfect for both the splash pad and the playground, the Crab features one-pull bungee lacing for easy on and off, a comfortable moisture-wicking lining and a non-marking rubber sole that’s classroom friendly.

 THE TREKLITE M

Part sneaker, part boot and all cool, the Treklite M is the perfect mid-season shoe for kids who enjoy being outside. Not only does it keep feet dry on wet fall days thanks to its waterproof DriDefense membrane, the GripXT sole technology means it can also do double duty as a hiking boot on weekends.

 THE CAMDEN

Nothing says new school year like a fresh pair of canvas sneakers, especially for active kids. The Camden is the perfect go-to on dry fall days and are just as great as in-door shoes when the temperatures drop. Lightweight and machine-washable, its hook-and-loop straps make it easy for younger kids to put on themselves, making them feel just that little bite more grown-up.

 THE STOMP

In addition to pencils, markers and notebooks, the list of school supplies usually includes a note about "footwear that is appropriate for the weather." Enter the Stomp. A classic recess saver, it ensures kids stay dry on the playground (and on the walk to school) even in the wettest of weather. Durable and comfortable, don’t be surprised if your child wants to wear it even when the sun’s out.

 THE SNOBUSTER

The problem with the weather is that it’s unpredictable. That’s where the Snobuster comes in. Lightweight and 100% waterproof, these winter boots are as tough in a rainstorm as they are in a blizzard. Designed for both the wet and the cold (they can keep toes warm down to –32 degrees), they are perfect for early winter days when the temperature drops.

 THE SNOWANGEL

There is winter, and then there is winter. Kids need to be ready to play outside even on the coldest day. The Snowangel is designed to handle the cold and will keep them warm in temperatures as low as -40. Whether heading out to build the ultimate snow fort or simply getting ready at the end of a school day, the bungee lacing system makes it easy for kids to suit up and keeps them cozy.

 THE SNOWMATE

Some kids are simply winter warriors. They are the first out of the door when the recess bell rings and the last ones off the playground. Kids like that need an extra level of warmth and the Snowmate gives them just that. Featuring a seam-sealed waterproof PU coated nylon upper and 8mm fleece lining, they offer the ultimate in warmth and dryness, letting the winter addict enjoy the outdoors for as long as possible.
